Slender roof extension and fabric upgrade to a complex corner condition
Looking outwardly onto the Broadgate estate this elegant corner building sits on the city fringe surrounded by skyscrapers.
Retaining the original building to minimise carbon emissions, the proposal adds 3,000 sq. ft of office and studio space.
Panoramic views and natural light are provided to the workspaces by removing the tapered mullions that currently subdivide the windows. A series of lightweight, prefabricated, terracing additions give this building a new form and proportion that feels coherent with its neighbours.
The façade and its extensions are wrapped with a warm ivory limestone cladding that references the palette of its ‘architectural island’ neighbours and completes the urban block with the fenestration grid expanding to provide panoramic views over the city.
