80 Trafalgar Road

A contextually responsive and complex refurbishment of a uniquely placed building

We prepared a vision for enhancing the existing building, preserving the distinctive features, and creating a community-centred hub for this beloved building which has been derelict for nearly 10 years.

A mix of retail and education-led spaces will fill the existing building and reactivate the street level, in addition to a rear annex inspired by the building’s name-sake arches.

The proposed lantern-like form visible from the street is placed carefully on top of the existing building. The proposed brick façades with ornamental brick detailing and fluted columns are a contemporary response to the existing building’s meticulous detailing and angular roof lines . The proportions and gridded nature of the set-back windows are inspired by the grain of the residential area.
